How Card Counting in Blackjack Helps

How Card Counting in Blackjack Helps
In blackjack, just like in many casino card games, many experts employ the technique called card counting. Card counting, from the name itself, means counting or keeping track of the cards being dealt by the blackjack dealer. In blackjack, since letting other players to see your card is not illegal and will not make any difference, it may be easier to do card counting than in other casino card games. When the blackjack player knows which cards are still not dealt or are still in the deck, he can plot a strategy on how to use his options. An example is a player may choose to bet a higher amount when he knows that there is a large probability of getting a blackjack. The blackjack player may know this possibility when he has noted that there are still many aces and cards with a value of ten in the deck. Another example is when the blackjack player knows that there are more high valued cards in the deck, he may choose to double knowing that he may get a stronger hand. It is not necessary for a blackjack player to remember each card that is being dealt. Some experts have developed different card counting systems that assigns points to the card to make it easier for the player to track the cards. When card counting is done, the blackjack player may increase his advantage over the house by up to two percent. This would mean that the player increases his possibility of winning. When the player also employs card counting, he may determine when he is most likely to win, thus, increasing his blackjack bet or he bets on insurance. In many casinos in the United States, card counting in blackjack is not considered as cheating or illegal. However, there are also casinos that may ban blackjack players due to card counting. Which is why, when a blackjack player employs card counting, it is important that nobody notices that he is doing this. It is also considered illegal to use any type of counting instruments, be it a sheet of paper or an electronic instrument. With a bit of practice, card counting may come easy. When you’re not in a casino, you may practice playing blackjack at home or using a computer program and use your card counting strategies. With many blackjack players increasing their advantage through card counting, casinos now use several decks in their blackjack games to counteract card counting.

Blackjack Card Values

Blackjack Card Values
Blackjack is a card game where one aims to accumulate a card total that’s higher than the dealer’s total without busting or exceeding 21. Since adding up card values is the basic skill used when playing blackjack, it’s important to know the breakdown of values per card in the game. There’s no problem about associating a value to the numbered cards (two to ten) since their amounts are already imprinted. Regarding face cards (jacks, queens, and kings), every single one of them is valued at ten. The ace card, however, is versatile since it can have a value of one or 11. But its versatility is directed by which number is appropriate in making the best total when you add up your blackjack card values. And here’s how the term “soft” and “hard” totals are coined when the ace is in play. Say you get an initial ace-nine deal. That alone makes a good soft total of 20. The term “soft” means that if you decide to hit or draw another card, there’ll be little to no risk of busting. For illustration’s sake, suppose you decide to hit on this soft 20 and you get two or higher. That’ll render a hard total since the best way to value the ace, from that point on, is at one so that you wouldn’t go over 21. So, if you get an ace-five on the initial deal in playing blackjack, you’ve got yourself a soft total of 15. If you decide to hit and draw a four, your new total will be a soft 19 since the ace in the ace-five-four combo is still valued at 11. But if the hit was a seven, in stead of totaling 22 which is a bust, the ace is understood to be valued at one which is the better alternative thus making the new hard total of 13 for the ace-five-seven combination. Blackjack card values are not complicated for many reasons such as suits are disregarded in adding them up, numbered cards are counted as is, and face cards are always valued at ten. It’s the ace card that presents tricky “hard” and “soft” totals in how they are added up in deals. In other words, as long as a hit request will retain the ace card’s value at 11, the sum is called a soft total. But if the previous hit reduces the ace’s value to one, it’s coined a hard total in blackjack.
